Netflix's A Family Affair will put you in the Christmas in July spirit
Plus, watch Hallmark's new snowflake movie because baby, it's hot outside
In Netflix’s A Family Affair, Zac Efron falls for Nicole Kidman in all her breathy, Aussie-accented glory. It has a Christmas scene, so this is definitely my territory.
Here are three reasons you should watch:
Zac plays a scumbag actor starring in “Diehard meets Miracle on 34th Street meets Speed.”
The “meet-cute” involves Zac wandering into Nicole’s home and asking her if she’s Australian and knows Margot Robbie. Ninety seconds later, they’re ripping tequila shots.
Zac actually addresses his jarring new chin.
If you need more Christmas in July in your life, Hallmark is releasing two new movies. The first, Falling Like Snowflakes, is on Peacock until tomorrow.
This story follows a woman and her snowplow-driver love interest as they try to save a community center by photographing a rare snowflake. Watching it in my parents’ un-air-conditioned sunroom on a 105-degree day was oddly refreshing.
Here are some things I learned about snowflakes from this movie (fully un-factchecked):
There are 35 kinds of them.
The 12-sided stellar dendrite is formed when two six-sided snowflakes fuse together because “nature is the best matchmaker.”
There is a highly competitive snowflake photography market that includes corporate espionage.
It you want to learn real things about snowflakes, this video is good.
Hallmark’s other Christmas in July new release is A Very Vermont Christmas, starring Katie Leclerc of Switched at Birth and Ryan McPartlin from Chuck. It will be on Peacock from July 21-23.
See you in November for my season preview! You better believe Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story will be on the list.
